Excerpts from CHAPTER 14 - Bringing Aboard a Board

"Marry the right person. This one decision will determine 90% of your happiness or misery," reads the sign on my family room wall. The same could be said about choosing the right members for your board of directors. Board members in churches and Christian nonprofit organizations are often chosen for the wrong reasons: popularity, wealth, or prestige in the parish or community. Certainly you want to choose born-again Christians who have a long history of serving the Lord through the Church. We currently operate with a board of seven directors. Since board members are volunteers, not employees, Hope Now can require them to certify their agreement with our statement of faith before they are nominated for election.
