Excerpts from CHAPTER 15 - If It's Green, It's God's

 

One secret to getting others to help you put together a faith-based gang intervention program is not being afraid to ask for all kinds of help. In October of 1992, I joined several Christian activists and other pastors on a trip to learn about the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation and to attend the annual meeting of the Christian Community Development Association in Detroit. Above all else I learned that week is this statement from a development director at the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation: People of means are looking for people of vision to support. What a freeing statement! No longer did I need to feel that I was going begging with hat in hand. I had a vision from the Lord to help the gang youth of our city and that same Lord had given others the means to help make that vision a reality. Many people, whether Christian or not, want to and have the ability to help at-risk youth in a variety of ways, but just don't know how to go about it. Hope Now provides them an opportunity to invest in a proven method of gang intervention. They are excited to see what their resources can accomplish on the streets of their city. Our Lord has planted these people in your city also...
