- Speak clearly and loud enough to
be heard. (Don't worry about your language skills. Do your best.)
- Smile
- Be yourself (you don't want them to hire who you are pretending
to be).

- Take two forms of identification (Social Security
Card and Driver's License or two other forms of photo identification).
- Be ready to ask a question about the company (ask your counselor
in advance if you need help). Sample: What opportunities are there
for
advancement
in this company?
- Have in your mind what position you are
applying for (ask your counselor in advance) Bad Example: "I
can do anything" or "I'll
take whatever is available." Better: "I am willing to learn."
- Bring
addresses and phone numbers of previous employers if you have any.
- Employers
sometimes ask, "Tell me about yourself," or "What
would you like to be doing five years from now?" Have a brief
answer ready.

- No previous employment is better than lying
about it.
- Be honest about drugs (they will probably test and find out
anyway - tests don't make mistakes).
- If the application asks about conviction
for a felony, be honest. Never mislead an employer.
- Take responsibility
for your past. Avoid phrases like "they didn't…", "the
job was boring." Rather say, "I'm changing and learning
and am ready to do a good job here."
