Hope Now was founded in 1992 based on the belief – now a field-tested reality – that a caring relationship plus a job can empower a gang member to choose a life of hope and success over a life on the streets.
Hope Now is a Fresno, California faith-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has seen over 2,500 young men leave their gangs for a job and a new life. Most Hope Now graduates are 16-24-year-old men with criminal records on probation or parole. Over 65% are retaining their jobs. Four of our current Vocational Placement Counselors are Hope Now graduates.
Hope Now is a public benefit organization. Faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ has led many Hope Now alumni to experience the transforming power, peace, and hope that are central to our work. Here’s a summary of Hope Now’s scope and mission, and the heart of a successful candidate…
“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.”
Isaiah 61:1-3
